An 18-year-old township resident has been arrested for the Sept. 27 shooting of a man on Hamilton Street, police said.

Lorenzo Hill of Stothoff Street was arrested on Sept. 29, police said. Hill has been charged with 2nd Degree Aggravated Assault, 2nd Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and 2nd Degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun.

After hearing shots being fired, township police responded to a report of a man with a gun on Martin Street, according to a release on the incident from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

At about 11:11 p.m., police found a 21-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his lower torso, the release said. The victim, who was not named, was transported to a local hospital, which also was not identified, for treatment of non-life threatening wounds.

Detectives from the township police department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Squad investigated, and, according to the release, found that Hill shot the man with a Smith & Wesson .357 cabler handgun.

A search of Hill’s home revealed the gun, which contained four empty casings and two live rounds in the revolver chamber, according to the release.

Hill is being held in the Somerset County Jail, Somerville, on $75,000 cash bail.
