Proposed Ordinance Amendment Would Expand Sunday Liquor Sales In Township

Sunday alcohol sales would be permitted during the same times as the rest of the week under an ordinance amendment set to be introduced at the Oct. 9 Township Council meeting.

Currently, Sunday sales of alcohol are restricted to noon to 2 a.m., in restaurants and noon to 10 p.m. in liquor stores.

The rest of the week, liquor sales are allowed from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. in restaurants and from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. in liquor stores.

The proposed ordinance would allow liquor sales seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. in restaurants and from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. in liquor stores.

“The owners of restaurants in Franklin have expressed their displeasure that alcohol sales on Sundays were not permitted during the same hours as the rest of days of the week,” Vince Dominach, the township’s economic development director, wrote in a memo. “The ordinance makes hours of alcohol sales consistent for every day of the week.”

“At their September meeting the Economic Development Committee of Township Council discussed and recommended an Ordinance change to allow the sale of alcohol on Sundays during the same hours as permitted the other days of the week,” Dominach wrote. “As a result of the Committee’s recommendation an Ordinance amending Chapter 93 “Alcoholic Beverages” was prepared for Township Council’s consideration.”

The Council meets at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber in the municipal building, 485 DeMott Lane.
