Police Investigating Armed Robbery Of Cab Driver

Police shieldTownship police are investigating the armed robbery of a cab driver on Hempstead Drive.

Police Sgt. Philip Rizzo said that just after midnight on July 18, police received a call from a cabby who said he’d been robbed.

The cab driver, who was not identified by police, said that he drove three young males to a Hempstead Drive address. When he stopped the cab, he said, he was hit in the head by one of the males with an unknown object.

The cab driver was taken to St. Peter’s University Medical Center, New Brunswick, for treatment.

Police did not release any information on what was stolen from the cab driver.

The investigation is ongoing, Rizzo said.
