Piscataway Man Slips, Falls In Canal While Fishing

A 77-year-old Piscataway man apparently escaped injury May 24 after he slipped and fell into the Delaware & Raritan Canal in East Millstone.

Township police received a report of a man in the water near Amwell Road and Market Street at about 11:15 a.m., according to a press release from the FTPD. Arriving police and firefighters from the Franklin Township Office of Fire Prevention arrived to find the man clinging to the bank of the canal.

Responders were able to pull the man to safety using equipment from their vehicles, according to the release.

The man, who was not identified, told police that he slipped while he was fishing. The man said that he did not think he was injured, but he was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, according to the release.
