Patriots Top Skeeters 5-3

MAY10thGRAPHICSugar Land, TX – The Somerset Patriots (10-5) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (6-9) 5-3 Saturday evening from Constellation Field. This was the Patriots fourth win in a row.

Brett Jodie registered his 100th career win as manager. Jodie became the fastest skipper in Atlantic League history to reach the 100 win plateau. The Patriots have won have four of the first five games of this lengthy six game series in Texas.

In the top of the first inning left fielder Ty Wright sliced a RBI single to give Somerset an early 1-0 advantage.

Shortstop Edwin Maysonet spanked a home run (2) off the left field foul pole in the top of the second inning as the Patriots added to their lead making the score 2-0.

Right fielder Luis Montanez cranked a home run (2) in the top of the third inning making the score 3-0 in favor of Somerset.

The Patriots tacked on a run in the top of the sixth inning when third baseman Corey Smith scored on a groundout upping the score to 4-0.

In the ensuing half inning first baseman Delwyn Young slugged a long home run (2) to put the Skeeters on the scoreboard making the contest 4-1.

Sugar Land plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 4-3. A run scored on pitcher Mike Solbach’s throwing error and another run came across on a RBI fielder’s choice by left fielder Rusty Ryal.

Somerset added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning when center fielder Jonny Tucker poked a RBI single making the score 5-3 which would be the final.

Matt Zielinski (2-0) earned the win tossing six innings allowing just one run. Tracy McGrady (0-1) suffered the loss in his professional baseball debut. He lasted 1.2 innings and gave up two runs on two hits and two walks. Jon Hunton earned the save (3) pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
