Patriots Top Barnstormers 7-6
Lancaster, PA – The Somerset Patriots (34-15) defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers (20-30) 7-6 Sunday afternoon at Clipper Magazine Stadium. With the victory the Patriots clinched the series and are now 8-0-2 in their last 10 series.
In the top of the first inning the Patriots plated a pair of runs to take a 2-0 advantage. A run scored on a throwing error committed by third baseman Yusuke Kajimoto and another run crossed home via a RBI double by center fielder Scott Cousins.
Lancaster tied the game in the next half inning when shortstop Lance Zawadzki slugged a two run home run (5) to make the contest 2-2.
The Patriots added two more runs in the top of the second inning as pitcher Bryan Woodall hurled a wild pitch that scored second baseman Nate Spears and another run crossed home via left fielder Aharon Eggleston’s RBI single to make the score 4-2.
Right fielder Brandon Jones clubbed a game tying two run home run (5) to even the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the third inning.
Third baseman Greg Hopkins ripped a RBI double to give Somerset the lead again at 5-4 in the top of the fifth inning.
Hopkins socked a home run (4) to put Somerset up 6-4 in the top of the seventh inning.
David Vidal roped a RBI single as Somerset padded its lead to 7-4 in the top of the eighth inning.
The Barnstormers scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to trim the deficit to 7-6. Center fielder Anderson Feliz sliced a RBI single while Kajimoto recorded a RBI sacrifice fly.
Anthony Collazo earned the win (1-0) pitching a scoreless inning of relief. Woodall sustained the loss (1-4) as he hurled five frames while allowing five runs. Jon Hunton notched the save (11) pitching the final inning.
