Patriots Take Series Over Blue Crabs

Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (11-9, 57-32) won the rubber match 7-6 against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (10-10, 39-51) Tuesday afternoon from TD Bank Ballpark.
In the bottom of the first inning second baseman Jeff Dominguez smacked a home run (1) to give Somerset an early 1-0 advantage.
Left fielder Cory Harrilchak homered (3) in the bottom of the second inning to increase the Patriots lead to 2-0.
Southern Maryland cut the deficit in half at 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning as designated hitter Luke Murton pounded a RBI double.
The Patriots added three runs in the bottom of the fourth frame to expand their lead to 5-1. Shortstop Scott Kelly sliced a RBI single while two additional runs scored on an error by pitcher Ian Marshall.
Left fielder Keith Castillo slashed a home run (4) to dwindle the deficit to 5-2 in the top of the fifth inning.
Catcher Adam Donachie hit a RBI fielder’s choice to up the score to 6-2 in favor of Somerset in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Blue Crabs plated a pair of runs in the ensuing half inning to cut the deficit in half at 6-4. Murton hit a RBI groundout while first baseman Angel Chavez recorded a RBI single.
Somerset scratched across a run in the home half of the seventh inning as first baseman Brian Barden roped a RBI double making the contest 7-4.
Castillo hammered a RBI double in the top of the eighth inning to cut the deficit to 7-5.
Shortstop Bobby Stevens clubbed a home run (1) in the top of ninth inning to make the score 7-6 which would be the final.
Matt Maloney (6-5) earned the win tossing six innings while allowing four runs. Ian Marshall (7-6) suffered the loss hurling 3.2 innings while scattering five runs. Jon Hunton notched his Atlantic League leading 31st save throwing the final frame.
