Patriots Defeat Bluefish 8-3

JUNE8thGRAPHICBridgeport, CT – The Somerset Patriots (27-16) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (16-28) 8-3 Sunday afternoon from Harbor Yard. The Patriots have won two of the first three games of this four game wrap around weekend series.

 

In the bottom of the first inning second baseman Ramon Castro tallied a RBI sacrifice fly to give Bridgeport an early 1-0 advantage.

 

The Patriots grabbed a 4-1 lead in the top of the third inning as they belted back-to-back homers. Right fielder Luis Montanez launched a three run home run (6) and third baseman Corey Smith socked a solo home run (2).

 

Left fielder Aharon Eggleston roped a RBI double in the top of the fourth inning to expand Somerset’s lead to 5-1.

 

Smith blasted his second home run (3) of the afternoon while second baseman Jonny Tucker and Eggleston drew bases loaded walks to increase the Patriots lead to 8-1.

 

The Bluefish added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning as designated hitter J.R. Towles smacked a solo home run (6) to make the score 8-2.

 

In the bottom of the ninth inning shortstop Mike Richard poked a RBI single making the contest 8-3 which would be the final score.

 

Matt Zielinski (4-2) earned the win hurling seven innings of two run baseball. Tomo Ohka (2-4) suffered the loss lasting four innings while surrendering five runs.
