Patriots Beat Blue Crabs 5-4

JUNE17thGRAPHICWaldorf, MD – The Somerset Patriots (32-19) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (20-32) 5-4 Tuesday evening from Regency Furniture Stadium.

 

In the top of the second inning designated hitter Mike Wilson launched a two run home run (1) to give the Patriots an early 2-0 advantage.

 

Southern Maryland tallied five extra base hits in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-2 lead. Second baseman Jake Opitz and designated hitter Tony Delmonico slashed RBI doubles while left fielder Luke Murton socked a two run home run (2).

 

The Patriots cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth inning as center fielder Jonny Tucker plated a run via a RBI groundout making the score 4-3.

 

Catcher Adam Donachie belted a go ahead two run home run (4) in the top of the fifth inning to propel the Patriots to a 5-4 lead.

 

Gary Moran (3-3) earned the win tossing six innings while allowing four runs on eight hits. Daryl Thompson (1-2) suffered the lost hurling five frames while surrendering five runs. Jon Hunton notched the save (15) pitching a scoreless final inning.

 

The 2014 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Saturday, June 21st when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
