Lumberton Man Convicted Of Robbing Township Electronics Store

somerset prosecutorA Lumberton man was convicted March 27 of 1st Degree Armed Robbery in connection with an October 2011 robbery at a township Radio Shack store.

Michael Mitchell, 31, was convicted after a trial in state Superior Court, Somerville, according to a press release from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

In the release, authorities said Mitchell and an accomplice, Emendo Bowers, entered the store with a handgun and demanded cell phones, laptops, other electronics and cash.

Surveillance video filmed from an adjacent store help authorities in identifying the two, the release said.

Bowers, who had pled guilty, testified against Mitchell, the release said. He will be sentenced April 4.

Mitchell faces up to 20 years in state prison, with 85 percent of his sentence needing to be served before he becomes eligible for parole, according to the release. He was remanded to the Somerset County Jail, Somerville, pending his May 30 sentencing.
