Life Story: Margaret Grimes, 89; Was Certified Teacher’s Aide

Margaret (Peggy) A. Grimes, 89, passed away peacefully on  Jan. 8 at Regency Heritage Care Center.

Peggy was born April 30, 1927 in Manhattan, New York to the late Walter and Frances (Harney) Green. She grew up in Manhattan and moved with her husband to central New Jersey in the late 1950s, where she last resided in Somerset.

Peggy was employed as an Office Manager for Mann Personnel Inc. (formally Olsten Temporaries), with whom she worked for 25 years. She earned a Teacher Aide Certificate from Middlesex County College in 1975 where she focused on Children’s Literature. She loved to read, especially fantasy, enjoyed old movies and treasured spending time with her family.

Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Edward, in 1972; her sister, Harriet Healy and her brother, Paul Augstein.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Patla and husband Mark of Somerset, NJ, her grandchildren (by marriage), John and Jillian Patla; her nieces, Patricia Healy-Pizzuti and husband, Gary; niece Susan H. Lipay and great nephews, David W. (Christina) and Adam P. Lipay.

Family and friends may visit from 2-4 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 11 at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St.
