Joseph Levine, 91, Father Of Former Mayor

joseph levineJoseph Levine, 91, died Saturday May 16th, 2015 at the Haven Hospice in Edison.

Born in Newark, NJ to Isaac and Lena Levine, Joseph graduated from Weequahic High School. He then served his country faithfully during World War II with the U.S. Army. Mr. Levine had a long and successful career in retail sales for several appliance outlets, including E.J. Korvettes, Alexanders, and Topps in Edison.

Mr. Levine was predeceased by his brothers, Bob, Harry, and Marty Levine. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Claire; their children, Gary Levine and his wife Celeste Mattino-Levine of Hamilton, Somerset County Freeholder Brian Levine and his wife Lori Goldblatt of Somerset, and Lisa Levine and her husband Gregg Rackin of Stockton; grandchildren, Megan Mattino-Levine, Ariella and Shira Levine, and Ross and Rachyl Rackin; sister, Esther Kaplan of Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will begin to gather at 10:30 am May 19 for an 11 a.m. funeral at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St. Somerset. Burial will follow in Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish National Fund, 42 East 69th Street New York, NY 10021 or at www.jnf.org.
