Hundreds Turn Out To Support Elijah’s Promise Culinary School

If the number of cars parked at The Palace at Somerset June 12 was any indication, the 17th annual Elijah’s Promise Chef’s Night was a success.

The event is the largest fundraiser held by Elijah’s Promise, and supplies the organization with about 25 percent of the culinary school’s budget, said Michelle Wilson, Elijah’s Promise’s associate director.

Wilson said the event usually raises about $100,000.

The culinary school is the organization’s state-approved job-training program, she said, and teches students job skills in the culinary arts.

About 30 restaurants from around New Jersey were at the event attended by 600 people, Wilson said.

“We were sold out,” she said. “These are 30 of the best restaurants that you can find, many of whom have been coming since the beginning.”

There was also a silent auction and one new feature, a photo booth.

The restaurants, wineries and food stores were set up in stations throughout the Palace’s ground floor, from which attendees sampled their specialties.
