Holiday Donation Opportunities in Township, Somerset County
Organizations within Franklin Township and in the greater Somerset County area offer opportunities for holiday donations.
Most immediately, the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, 771 Somerset St., Somerset, will hold a food collection on Nov. 24.
Non-perishable food items whose “use by” date has not passed can be dropped off in specially labelled bins in the church’s lobby.
The food will be used to make Thanksgiving food baskets that will be distributed to the needy by the church’s Missionary Ministry and the Central Jersey Community Development Corporation on Nov. 25.

The Somerset County Sherif’s Office is holding a Toys for Tots donation drive now through Dec. 13
Unwrapped, new toys can be dropped off weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Sheriff’s office, located in the lower level of the Somerset County Administration Building, 20 Grove St., Somerville.

Unused prescription eyeglasses are being collected by the Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services, working with New Eyes for the Needy in Short Hills, through Feb. 14, 2014.
The eyeglasses will be sent overseas and donated to people without access to eye care.
“For people in many places throughout the world, such as South America and Indonesia, the ability to see clearly is just a dream, because there is no access to eye care, or people simply can’t afford to buy eyeglasses,” Somerset County Freeholder Patrick Scaglione said in a release about the event.
Locally, eyeglasses can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Quail Brook Senior Center, 625 New Brunswick Rd., Somerset.
Glasses can also be dropped off at the Somerset County Human Services Building, 27 Warren St., Somerville, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., except holidays.
