Guided Nature Walks Offered By Open Space Program

Guided nature walks, sponsored by the Franklin Township open space program, are being offered through the spring and summer months.

The walks are free and plotted along easy terrain.

The May and June walks will be led by NJ Audubon naturalists. The July and August walks will be led by two township residents and avid birders, Chris and Paula Williams.

No pre-registration is necessary, but RSVPs are appreciated. Bring binoculars if you have them and preferably wear boots. Be sure to dress appropriately for current weather conditions.

The walks are as follows:

9-11 a.m. May 4: Exploring the Negri-Nepote Grassland Preserve for Breeding Birds and Migrants. Meet at the parking lot located at 260 Skillmans Lane.

9-11 a.m. June 8: Exploring the Griggstown Native Grassland Preserve for Nesting Birds. Meet at the parking lot located up the hill of the driveway entrance located at 1091 Canal Road just west of the Griggstown Causeway.

9-11 a.m. July 26: Butterflies and Birds at Negri-Nepote Grassland Preserve. Meet at the parking lot located at 260 Skillmans Lane.

9-11 a.m. Aug. 23: Butterflies at the Griggstown Native Grassland Preserve. Meet at the parking lot located up the hill of the driveway entrance located at 1091 Canal Road—just west of the Griggstown Causeway.
