Update: The new opening day is April 14. The parade will kick off from Pine Grove Manor School at 8:30 a.m. and head up Franklin Boulevard to the Mickey James Franklin Township Little League Complex, where the teams and their sponsors will be introduced as players and their coaches run out onto the field with their team banners. Team games will begin immediately after the ceremony and will continue throughout the day.

Also during the day, Frutta Bowls on Elizabeth Avenue in the Crossroads at Somerset shopping plaza, will hold a dine-and-donate fundraiser for the FTBL.

Original Story: With just a few weeks until the big day, Franklin Township Baseball League (FTBL) is preparing for its annual Opening Day celebration on April 7  featuring the FTBL parade followed by the opening ceremony.

This year marks FTBL’s 65th Opening Day celebration. The day will kickoff with a parade beginning at 8:30 a.m. lead by the East Franklin Fire Department, from Pine Grove Manor School to the Mickey James FTBL Complex, where the ceremony will commence.

Ready to spread baseball spirit, the teams and their sponsors will be introduced as players and their coaches run out onto the field with their team banners.

“For the last 65 years, FTBL’s parade has signaled the start of the baseball season within the Franklin Township community. We are thrilled once again to come together as a community provider of organized baseball for our youth and their families,” said Chuck Turano, president of FTBL.

In the spirit of “neighbors helping neighbors,” FTBL has created a virtual food drive to benefit the Franklin Township Food Bank. Additionally, FTBL will accept monetary donations and will collect non-perishable food items at the FTBL complex on Opening Day to benefit the Franklin Township Food Bank. Suggested donations are cereal, tuna, peanut butter, and jelly. Glass, open food, or expired foods will not be accepted.

FTBL will also be sponsoring a virtual food drive to benefit the Franklin Township Food Bank. Visit FTBL’s virtual food drive at www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/FTBLbaseball.

Team games will begin immediately after the ceremony, and will be played throughout the day. We invite all to come down to the Mickey James FTBL Complex to support our youth as they kickoff what will be a fun and exciting season.
