FHS Sports: Freshman Baseball Team Loses Big, Wins Big

The Franklin High School freshman baseball team was on both ends of lopsided games over the past few days.

On May 5, the Warriors crushed Delaware Valley Regional High School 13-1, but was on the receiving end in a 10-0 loss to South Plainfield High School on May 2.

In the May 5 contest, the Warriors blew open a 3-1 game with 10 runs in the 5th inning.

Garrett Callaghan started the frame with a line drive to left field. Callaghan would later score the first run in the inning two batters later when Devan Sirota singled to right field.

Several batters later, Brian DiNicola walked to load the bases and Patrick Pallay singled to drive in a run.

Sirota later scored on a wild pitch, making the score 8-1.

Later in the frame, with the score 12-1 and the bases loaded again, Sirota scored when Pallay drew a walk.

In the home 5th, pitcher Sohil Patel struck out the side in order to end the game.

In the May 2 game, Franklin gave up seven runs in the second of what would also be a 5-inning game.

South Plainfield sealed the Warriors’ fate with a run in the 3rd inning and two more in the 5th.
