The Franklin High School boys’ bowling team came up short in its quest for a title in the Group III state championships Feb. 27 at Carolier Lanes, North Brunswick, coming in second to Montville High School.

Just getting to the state finals was a victory, coach Ken Margolin said.

“Been 40 years since we made it to a state final,” he said in an email.

The Warriors didn’t go down without a fight, with senior Sergey Eccles rolling his second perfect game of the season. Eccles’ other scores were 214 and 219, giving him a team-leading pin count of 733.

Margolin praised his team for their effort that day and all season long.

“Great season, great kids” Margolin said in an email. “We will be ranked top 10 in the state at the end of the week.”

Sophomore Dylan Coker was next in the total pin count with 670 (208, 253, 189). He was followed by senior Nick Chow with 592 (215, 182, 195); senior Muntasir Cooper with 564 (184, 190, 190) and senior Kevin Greene with 514 (182, 148, 184).

The team earlier in the season won the Skyland Conference championships.

Eccles was one of four bowlers with perfect games in the championships, each of whom won high game trophies.
