Residents of two Becket Place condominiums were displaced May 23 as a result of an early morning fire.

There were no reported injuries.

Police received a call about the fire at approximately 5:49 a.m., according to a Franklin Township Police Department press release. Responding officers saw black smoke and flames coming from the units’ garage area.

Officers went door-to-door in the units, making sure that all residents were evacuated, according to the release.

Firefighters from the Franklin Township Office of Fire Prevention, Middlebush, Elizabeth Avenue, Community and Somerset Fire and Rescue departments responded to the scene, and EMS personnel from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital were on scene as well, according to the release.

Fire, smoke and water damage chased the residents of two units from their homes, the release said. Those families are staying with family or friends in the area.

The initial investigation by fire inspectors from the township Office of Fire Prevention showed that the blaze’s cause does not appear suspicious, according to the release.
