Campaign 2019: State Assemblyman Joe Danielsen’s Candidacy Statement
Since entering the General Assembly in 2014, I continue to work hard everyday to improve the quality of life for all residents in Legislative District 17. While some goals are more quickly achieved, I remain committed to lowering our property tax burden, improving our environment, maintaining quality public schools, enhancing economic opportunities and ensuring small business growth and tax fairness.
That is why I am proud that this year we will see an increase in school aid to our district of over $14.5 million to expand needed programs, while also reducing our local tax burdens. In addition, as the chief sponsor of medical cannabis, I will continue to support expansion of research, development, education and business opportunities for women, minorities and disabled veterans in this new economic field.
I also realize that our current tax structure continues to drive our senior population out of state, and that is why I am working with senior residents to introduce legislation that will enhance the senior freeze property tax laws in New Jersey. This tied with new higher educational opportunities to lower tuition-based costs will allow our state to stop the mass out-migration of new graduates and help us maintain the best and brightest while strengthening our economy.
As I review the actions of the current legislative session, I am proud of a number of initiatives that have become law under my leadership, those include, increasing our state’s minimum wage, changing the school funding formula, providing stronger pay equity standards for women, securing additional 6 weeks for paid family leave, instituting additional common-sense gun laws, promoting greater access to medical cannabis and tackling the opioid epidemic.
My vision needs to be your vision as we seek solutions to the problems that together we can solve. That is why my office is always open to your needs as constituents because, I am always at your service.
