Blue Crabs Sweep Double Header Over Patriots On Sunday

Bridgewater, NJ – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (36-26) swept a doubleheader against the Somerset Patriots (45-18) at TD Bank Ballpark Sunday afternoon.

 

Game One

The Southern Maryland clubbed three home runs to top the Somerset Patriots 6-1 in game one of the doubleheader.

 

In the top of the second inning shortstop Casey Frawley pounded a three run home run (2) to give Southern Maryland a 3-0 advantage.

 

Second baseman Nate Spears slugged a RBI triple in the bottom of the second inning to cut the deficit to 3-1.

 

The Blue Crabs scored three times in the top of the sixth inning to expand their lead to 6-1. First baseman Zach Wilson hit a solo home run (3) and second baseman Jake Opitz launched a two run home run (5).

 

Brian Baker earned the win (3-4) lasting five innings while allowing one run. R.J. Seidel suffered the loss (2-2) hurling three innings while allowing three runs.

 

Game Two

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs edged the Somerset Patriots 2-1 in game two of the doubleheader.

 

In the top of the fifth inning Southern Maryland hit back-to-back solo home runs to take a 2-0 lead. Third baseman Casey Frawley launched a home run (3) to left field while center fielder Anthony Vega cranked a home run (1) to right field.

 

Designated hitter Aharon Eggleston poked a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.

 

Jake Hale earned the win (8-2) tossing five winnings while giving up one run. Lucas Irvine endured the loss (4-4) hurling 5.1 innings while surrendering two runs. Erik Hamren notched the save (17) pitching the final frame.
