Blue Crabs’ Four Home Runs Power Them To 6-3 Win Over Patriots

Bridgewater, NJ- The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (37-27) defeated the Somerset Patriots (40-25) 6-3 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening.

Southern Maryland took a 1-0 lead on Michael Snyder’s home run (13) in the top of the second inning.

Zach Wilson made it a 2-0 game with a solo home run (12) in the top of the fourth inning.

Zach Cone followed suit with the Blue Crabs’ third homer (6) of the game to make it 3-0 in the top of the seventh inning.

“I actually thought [Dave] Kubiak threw the ball well. They took some big hacks up there and got a hold of some,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “I thought he gave us a chance to win. We just couldn’t figure out [Drew] Hayes tonight.”

Somerset cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI triple by Greg Golson and a sacrifice fly by Kyle Roller.

Southern Maryland answered with three runs in the top of the ninth inning on Snyder’s second home run of the game (14), an RBI double by L.J. Hoes, and an RBI single by Luis Allen for a 6-2 advantage.

The Patriots got the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, but only one run came across on an Aharon Eggleston fielder’s choice for the 6-3 final.

Drew Hayes (3-2) picked up the win, scattering two hits over seven scoreless innings pitched. David Kubiak (3-6) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs on four hits and six strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
