Township Senior Citizen In Critical Condition After Being Struck By Car

A 74-year-old township woman is in critical condition at a local hospital after being struck by a car while crossing John F. Kennedy Boulevard on Oct. 31.

Police said Hendrika Houben of Somerset was struck by a 2012 Nissan Maxima driven by by Nada Gilbert, 28, also of Somerset, as Gilbert was making a left turn from New Brunswick Road to JFK Blvd. shortly before 4 p.m.

Houben was walking across JFK in a marked crosswalk, police said.

After seeing Houben lying in the road, responding police officers gave her aid until EMS personnel arrived at the scene, police said.

Houben was transported to a local area trauma center with a head injury and fractured leg, police said, and as of Nov. 1 was listed in critical condition.

The accident is under investigation, police said. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Sgt. Erik Hagman at (732) 873-5533 extension 3111.
