Dropped Cell Phone Leads Police To Man Charged With Dec. 6 Shooting

A dropped cell phone helped lead police to a North Brunswick man authorities allege shot another man in the course of trying to rob a Franklin Boulevard business on Dec. 6.

The suspect, Rajon L. McMillian, 24, was arrested at 2 p.m. Dec. 30 after he appeared at the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office in Somerville, according to a press release from the prosecutor.

Police allege that McMillian was attempting to rob the township business when an unidentified Bordentown man tried to stop him. The resultant struggle left the Bordentown man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the chest, police said.

During the struggle, according to the press release, McMillan dropped his cell phone. The phone was later recovered by detectives.

During the investigation police identified a second victim, a 30-year-old New Brunswick woman, who said she McMillian pointed his gun at her and robbed her of $1,000, according to the release.

McMillian was charged with 1st Degree Armed Robbery, 2nd Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and 3rd Degree Aggravated Assault.

McMillian remains in custody at the Somerset County Jail, Somerville, on $150,000 cash bail.

The shooting victim was treated for his injuries and released, according to the release.

Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano commended the various agencies involved in the investigation.
