The final tallies of the Nov. 8 write-in votes were released this week, and they show that 543 write-in votes were cast, with the bulk of them going to the two late-starting Board of Education candidates.
Andre Fryson and Kunal Lakhia announced their candidacies for the school board on Facebook, after well after the filing deadline had passed.
Their brief campaigning resulted in Lakhia receiving 219 votes and Fryson receiving 114 votes.
Township voters overwhelmingly preferred Democrat Hillary Clinton for president over the eventual winner, Donald Trump, by a count of 21,037 to 7,711. Independent Bernie Sanders, who competed with Clinton for the Democratic nomination, was written in by 52 voters. Republican John Kasich received 31 write-in votes, and independent candidate Evan McMullin received 21 write-in votes.
The remainder of the votes were primarily single for individuals, but local Realtor Nick DiMeglio received four votes for school board.
