Somerset Patriots Sign RHP Jeremy McBryde

McBryde-ReleaseBridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Jeremy McBryde.

“I am very excited to get back out and start pitching again,” McBryde said. “I’m willing to help out anywhere the team needs me, but it looks like more back-end of the bullpen work. That is where I feel comfortable and where I have strived throughout my career.”

McBryde enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and first in the Atlantic League. The righty spent the first seven years of his professional career in the San Diego Padres organization, before joining the Oakland Athletics organization in 2014 and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2015. McBryde played at the Triple-A level with the Athletics and Angels, respectively, including spending most of 2015 on the Angels’ 40-man roster.

The Oklahoma City native finished second in the Pacific Coast League in appearances last season (62), while recording five wins and 11 saves with Triple-A Salt Lake City. In 2014, he finished fourth in the PCL in saves (17) with a 3-4 record and a 2.22 ERA over 51 appearances (one start). Additionally, McBryde struck out 66 batters over 65 innings pitched.

“Jeremy has had some electric years in the minors,” Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie said. “He has pitched well at all levels and in many different roles. Jeremy has been at the back-end of the bullpen the last few years and we are confident we will find a role that best suits him and our club. We love the fact that Jeremy has such huge strikeout numbers while minimizing bases on balls. We are very excited to have McBryde join our 2016 squad.”

In 2013, McBryde finished second in the Texas League in saves (15) with a 2.35 ERA for Double-A San Antonio. In addition, the Rose State College product struck out 73 batters of 61.1 innings pitched, good for a 10.7 strikeouts/nine innings (K/9) ratio.

McBryde has surpassed a 9.0 K/9 ratio in seven of his nine professional seasons, including a career-high 11.0 K/9 ratio in 2012 with San Antonio. He owns a career-9.6 K/9 ratio.

The 2009 Padres’ draft pick is owns 33 wins with a 4.02 ERA, 58 saves and 719 strikeouts over 676.2 innings pitched in his nine-year career.
