Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of two-time Frontier League All-Star right-handed pitcher Trevor Foss. His rights were initially acquired in a trade with the Washington Wild Things for a player to be named later.
“I am more than excited to get going,” said Foss. “This will be an incredible opportunity for me to play at the best level of independent ball against some great talent. It will be fun to get a fresh start in a new league.”
Foss enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and first in the Atlantic League. He has spent most of the previous two seasons with the Washington Wild Things in the Frontier League. There, the righty combined to go 20-8 with a 2.82 ERA and 154 strikeouts against 46 walks over 35 games (34 starts) over his two seasons, both in which he was named an All-Star. Foss also spun a franchise-record 12 complete games (including four shutouts) over his two seasons in Washington.
The Janesville, Wisconsin native parlayed an 8-3 record with a 2.50 ERA in 2016 with the Wild Things into seven starts with Single-A Lake County in the Cleveland Indians organization at the end of the season. He returned to Washington in 2017 to post a 12-5 record with a 3.06 ERA over 20 starts.
“We are pleased to welcome Foss to our 2018 pitching staff,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “Foss is a young arm that we are excited to see here. He’ll have a chance to compete for a rotation spot on our team. We have heard great things about Trevor and the success he has had in other leagues. He seems to have that bulldog mentality when on the hill and we welcome that competitiveness on our team.”
Foss spent the first three years of his professional career in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization, primarily as a relief pitcher. The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi alumnus won 16 games with a 3.75 ERA in the Angels system, including two years at High-A Inland Empire. He owns a 40-25 record with a 3.40 ERA over his five seasons of professional baseball.
The Somerset Patriots led the Atlantic League in attendance and made their 14th appearance in the playoffs last season. The Somerset Patriots will welcome their 7,000,000th fan in their 20th season at TD Bank Ballpark in 2018. Tickets are now on sale for the 2018 Season presented by Ford beginning at home on Friday, April 27th. For more information, please visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
