Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (23-17) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (11-29) 4-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.
The Patriots stole the lead in the bottom of the third inning when Michael Crouse swiped home for the 1-0 advantage.
Somerset added to the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Will Kengor drove in a run on an RBI single and Michael Ohlman plated two more with a base hit that made the score 4-0.
Southern Maryland got on the board in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI double by Cory Vaughn to cut the lead to 4-1.
Recently signed Ryan Kussmaul (1-0) impressed in his Patriots debut, allowing a run on four hits in six solid innings of work to earn the win.
“I like to challenge hitters and go right after them,” said Kussmaul. “I made a few two-out mistakes, but in the end, we came out with the win.”
Brett Lee (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing four runs- three earned- on five hits in 3.2 innings pitched. Mike Antonini pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his league leading 14th save of the season.
