Bridgewater, NJ – The York Revolution (30-23) defeated the Somerset Patriots (30-23) 5-3 at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.
The Patriots jumped out in front in the first inning on a two-run home run by Eric Farris (1).
A two-run shot by Joel Guzman (9) in the fourth inning tied up the game at 2-2.
York took the lead in the fifth inning on an error that allowed a run to score after a Michael Rockett base hit for a 3-2 advantage.
Rockett added two more runs to the lead on a double in the top of the seventh inning to make the score 5-2. He would finish the game 2-for-3 with two RBI in the game.
“They took advantage of a couple of innings and got the big home run that matched ours. Then the Rockett hit was really the difference,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie.
Somerset cut the lead to 5-3 when Trayvon Robinson crossed the plate on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Mariel Checo (4-1) got the win after giving up a run in two innings pitched. Patriots starter Shaun Garceau (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and seven strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched. Mike DeMark pitched the ninth inning and struck out the side for his 17th save of the season.
“I felt that they pitched us well tonight and we had some decent at bats, but just couldn’t get anything going. You have to give them credit,” Jodie added.
