Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (39-16) shutout the Sugar Land Skeeters (28-28) 3-0 Saturday evening at TD Bank Ballpark in front of a crowd of 7.094. Five different pitchers (Brett Brach, Paul Smyth, Anthony Collazo, Kyler Newby and Jon Hunton) combined to hurl a four hit shutout.
In the top of the first inning center fielder Jonny Tucker cranked a leadoff home run (3) and left fielder Michael Burgess tallied a RBI sacrifice fly to give Somerset a 2-0 advantage.
Shortstop Robert Andino recorded a RBI fielder’s choice in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase the Patriots lead to 3-0.
Brach earned the win (1-0) tossing five scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. Shane Loux sustained the loss (3-3) going seven innings while surrendering three runs on seven hits. Jon Hunton notched the save (13) pitching the final frame.
