Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (28-11) shutout the Lancaster Barnstormers (16-24) 6-0 Thursday afternoon at TD Bank Ballpark. The Patriots pitching staff has now tossed 24.0 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to Tuesday. Somerset has matched its longest winning streak of the year by tallying five straight.
In the bottom of the first inning right fielder Chris Marrero recorded a RBI groundout as the Patriots took a 1-0 advantage.
Third baseman Greg Hopkins launched a home run (3) in the bottom of the second inning to expand the Somerset lead to 2-0.
The Patriots plated a pair of two out runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 4-0. Shortstop Scott Kelly roped a RBI double while catcher James Skelton blooped a RBI single.
Somerset scored twice more in the bottom of the sixth inning as Kelly ripped a RBI single and center fielder Jonny Tucker slugged a RBI double as the Patriots grabbed a 6-0 lead.
David Harden earned the win (4-1) tossing five scoreless frames. Joe Gardner endured the loss (0-1) in his 2015 debut as he surrendered four runs in four innings.
