Camden, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (17-9) powered their way to a 14-2 victory over the Camden Riversharks (8-19) Thursday evening from Campbell’s Field. The game was delayed 32 minutes due to rain. The Patriots won three of the four games in this series and Somerset finished the first half with a 7-3 record against Camden in the Turnpike Series.
In the top of the third inning the Patriots took an early 4-0 advantage. Catcher Adam Donachie cranked a solo home run (1) and right fielder Luis Montanez mashed a three run home run (4).
Somerset added three runs in the top of the fourth frame to expand its lead to 7-0. Donachie tallied a RBI sacrifice fly, left fielder Aharon Eggleston hit a RBI groundout and another run scored on a fielding error by first baseman Bryan Pounds.
Camden plated a run in the ensuing half inning when center fielder Alex Hudak ripped a RBI double making the contest 7-1.
Third baseman Corey Smith smacked a RBI double in the top of the fifth inning as Somerset added to its lead at 8-1.
The Patriots hammered three home runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a comfortable 14-1 lead. Donachie (2) and Montanez (5) each socked two run homers which were their second homers of the game. Also center fielder Cory Harrilchak golfed a two run home (2) to right field.
The Riversharks scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to make the score 14-2 which would be the final score as left fielder Brian Van Kirk hit a solo home run (1).
Matt Langwell (2-2) earned the win hurling six innings allowing one run. Dan Blewett (0-1) suffered the loss surrendering seven runs in four innings of work.
