Patriots Pitcher Logan Darnell’s Contract Purchased By Tampa Bay Rays

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced that left-handed pitcher Logan Darnell’s contract has been purchased by the Tampa Bay Rays organization. He will report to Double-A Montgomery.

Darnell was 4-2 with a 3.86 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 12 appearances this season for Somerset. His 46.2 innings of work were split between two separate stints with the team.

After having his contract purchased by the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 9th, Darnell re-joined the Patriots on June 1st, making eight appearances (two starts) and lowering his season ERA from 4.50 to 3.86. Arguably his best performance of the season came in his last outing, throwing 7.1 innings of one run baseball, striking out seven en route to his fourth win of the season.

The Greenbrier, Tennessee resident made his Major League debut with the Minnesota Twins on May 6, 2014. After making seven appearances with the Twins, Darnell remained in the organization through 2016.

In 2014, prior to his call-up, Darnell impressed with a 3.60 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 115 innings of work at Triple-A Rochester.

Darnell owns a 54-46 record with a 3.81 ERA over his seven-year minor league career.

This marks the ninth contract purchased from the Somerset Patriots by a Major League organization in 2017. It is the second time Darnell’s contract was purchased this season (Los Angeles Dodgers). He now joins fellow pitchers Jeremy Bleich (Los Angeles Dodgers), Tyler Cloyd and Ryan Kelly (Seattle Mariners), Aaron Laffey (Arizona Diamondbacks), Vin Mazzaro (Cincinnati Reds), and Mitch Atkins (New York Mets), along with outfielder Jerry Sands (San Francisco Giants) as players who had their contracts’ purchased earlier this season.

Tickets to the 2017 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford, which includes the team’s 20th Anniversary, are on sale now.
