Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (27-23, 77-43) defeated the York Revolution (27-22, 51-68) 8-3 Sunday evening at TD Bank Ballpark.
In the bottom of the first inning designated hitter Michael Burgess blasted a two run home run (12) to give Somerset a 2-0 advantage.
Center fielder Jonny Tucker recorded a RBI ground out to swell the Somerset lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning.
York cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the third inning as shortstop Wilson Valdez roped a RBI triple and another run crossed home via an error by third baseman Greg Hopkins.
Hopkins hammered a home run (9) in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase the Patriots lead to 4-2.
Burgess belted a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase the Patriots lead to 5-2.
Somerset plated a pair of two out runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 7-2. Tucker socked a RBI triple and came around to score on a wild pitch hurled by Edward Parades.
Pitcher Josh Judy hurled a wild pitch that plated second baseman Nate Spears as the Patriots lead grew to 8-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning.
In the top of the eighth inning Yeicok Calderon laced a RBI single dwindling the deficit to 8-3.
Will Oliver earned the win (4-1) pitching on three day’s rest as he tossed five innings while surrendering two runs. Matt Neil sustained the loss (2-8) lasting 5.2 innings while yielding six runs.
