More Than $12 Million Asked For In Capital Improvement Plans For 2016 Budget

2016 Township Council
The Township Council is expected to introduce the 2016 budget at its Feb. 23 meeting.

More than $12 million in capital improvement and equipment expenses were presented to the Township Council Feb. 16 during its second budget session.

The total includes nearly $5 million in projects and equipment, another roughly $5 million in Open Space Trust Fund expenses – including $3.6 million for the design and construction of Phase 1 of the controversial Catalpa Park – $1.4 million for the water utility and $591,000 for vehicles.

The proposed $4,955,000 non-vehicle capital expense program includes the $2.5 million road resurfacing plan, $750,000 for sidewalks on roads near Franklin Middle School and $975,000 for the Philips Road ravine restoration project.

There is also a request for $100,000 for a HVAC management system for the Senior/Community Center and $175,000 for a HVAC replacement for the public safety building.

Included in the $591,000 vehicle plan is $112,000 for four unmarked police cars and $32,000 for one unmarked police Ford Expedition, as well as accessories and equipment.

That budget also includes $75,000 for a dump truck with a plow for the Department of Public Works and $48,000 for a pickup truck with a plow, also for DPW.

The water utility is requesting $1.4 million for vehicles, technology and various equipment replacements.

In addition to the $3.6 million for Catalpa Park, the $4,856,250 Open Space Trust Fund capital plan asks for $225,000 for the replacement of playground equipment at Inman Park.

The Recreation Department has asked for $15,000 from the open space fund for three security camera to be installed at Inman, Naiman Williams and Middlebush parks.

The full budget is expected to be introduced at the Feb.23 council meeting.
