Bridgeport Earns Series Victory With 3-2 Win Over Patriots

Bridgeport, Conn. – A late Somerset Patriots (5-7, 47-35) rally came up just short Wednesday night in a 3-2 loss to the Bridgeport Bluefish (8-5, 49-34) at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

Bridgeport broke the ice in the bottom of the third inning on a Jose Cuevas sacrifice fly to left field. The Bluefish then doubled their lead in the fourth on Daniel Fields’ RBI single to right field.

Zach Racusin trimmed the deficit in half in the top of the fifth with an RBI groundout, but Bridgeport responded in the next half on Andrew Lambo’s two-out RBI single to regain a two-run lead.

Somerset rallied in the ninth inning with three-straight base hits against Bridgeport Closer David Carpenter, including an RBI single from Carlos Guzman, but ultimately fell just short.

Jonathan Albaladejo (7-6) earned the after he allowed just one unearned run with eight strikeouts over eight innings. Efrain Nieves (1-2) yielded three runs over six innings to suffer the loss. Carpenter (30) allowed a run in the ninth but held on to earn the save.

Somerset returns home Thursday to open up a four-game series against the New Britain Bees. Righty Will Oliver (3-2, 5.84 ERA) takes the mound for Somerset against Bee’s right-hander Kyle Simon (6-6, 4.24 ERA). First pitch at TD Bank Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
