Bridgewater, NJ – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (8-9, 50-37) salvaged the series finale by winning 4-2 over the Somerset Patriots (12-6, 62-26) Sunday evening at TD Bank Ballpark. The Patriots snapped their eight game winning streak.
In the top of the second inning left fielder Jamar Walton recorded a RBI sacrifice fly to give Southern Maryland a 1-0 advantage.
Right fielder Fred Lewis roped a two RBI double in the top of the third inning to expand the Blue Crabs lead to 3-0.
The Patriots got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning as second baseman Greg Hopkins socked a RBI sacrifice fly making the score 3-1.
The Blue Crabs responded with a run in the ensuing half inning thanks to shortstop Casey Frawley’s home run ( 4) increasing the lead to 4-1.
In the bottom of the ninth inning first baseman Mat Gamel hammered a RBI double cutting the deficit to 4-2 which would be the final score.
Brian Burress earned the win (4-6) tossing seven innings of one run baseball. Mickey Storey sustained the loss (5-3) hurling six frames while surrendering three runs. Erik Hamren notched the save (22) pitching the final inning.
