The first snow storm of 2014 has come and gone and all that’s left are the memories and the frozen slush.
Residents throughout the villages spent part of Jan. 3 digging out, and the rest of the day and Jan. 4 dealing with the Arctic blast that sent temperatures into the single digits.
Over the past two days, we asked residents to send us their snow storm pictures, and also asked how they passed the time during and after the storm. Following are their responses.
Jen Putnoky: We’ll be breaking down Christmas today. It’s bittersweet for me because #1 I’d love to leave it for the other big day (The Epiphany) but so few observe anymore that I’d rather move on to thoughts of Spring. # 2 this is my last Christmas as a Jerseyan. But I’ll make time even if it’s after dark to take the grand sledding. But I personally despise winter. 80-88 degrees is my comfort zone. I’m still in sweats when it’s in the low 70s.
Pat Dillon: We like a fire in the fireplace. Dinner in the family room, comfort food or burgers on the BBQ is a favorite. (Yes, I shovel out the BBQ!) Old TV shows, swapping stories, and just general family time is the best!
Joyce Abbamonte Zaborowski: I also cleaned off the grill … we are starting to take down the Christmas decorations but not the manger till the Feast of Three Kings … I opened all the shades for the sun to come in to conserve heat.
Jen Acer Tuck: We spent the day together as a family playing board games like Sorry. And for dinner, we had grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. Nothing beats comfort food on a wintry day!
Richard Evans: We’re working on the snow blower, (30 yrs old) so that I can make paths throughout the yard for our dog to be undistracted in his daily “duties”. That is our fun today. PS we do a doggy rest area down the street too for all of our neighbors’ dogs to enjoy.
K’Patrick Burnswick: I’m tempted to spend the day in pyjamas, but I think I should squeeze in a visit to see the residents and patients at Willow Creek on Easton Avenue.
