Bees Outlast Patriots 5-4 In 12 Innings

Bridgewater, NJ- The New Britain Bees (25-36) defeated the Somerset Patriots (37-24) 5-4 in 12 innings at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.

Craig Maddox hit a solo home run (5) in the top of the 12th inning to take the 5-4 lead that would be the final score.

The Patriots rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the bottom of the ninth inning, tying up the game on a two-run double by Tyler Bortnick that forced extra innings.

“I was happy to see us rally in the ninth there, especially after our bullpen did a nice job of keeping us in the game,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “We missed a few opportunities to get some runs across and those are things you have to be able to do at home to win these kind of games.”

The Bees took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on RBI singles by Jovan Rosa and Jon Griffin.

Somerset answered in their half of the frame on RBI doubles by Carlos Guzman and Adam Donachie to tie the game.

Jamar Walton gave New Britain back the lead in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run double that made the score 4-2.

Brandon Shimo (4-1) picked up the win with three scoreless innings pitched. Kyler Newby (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing a run in an inning of work.

The 2017 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday, June 24th with a 7:05 pm game against the New Britain Bees. The game features Ballpark Comic Con with Superhero Socks (1st 1,500 Kids) presented by Hugs For Brady. The game now includes a Post Game Fireworks Show due to Friday night’s rescheduling of the show.  For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
