Somerset Patriots, 2015 Season, Game Recap, TD Bank Ballpark, Greg Hopkins, Michael Burgess, Roy MerrittBridgewater, NJ – The Lancaster Barnstormers (40-21, 68-63) defeated the Somerset Patriots (33-27, 83-47) 9-3 Friday evening at TD Bank Ballpark.
In the top of the second inning Lancaster plated six two out runs to take a 6-0 advantage. Second baseman Tyler Bortnick clubbed a three RBI double. Left fielder Kent Matthes socked a two run homer (6). First baseman Mike McDade launched a solo home run (9).
Pitcher Chad Beck had not allowed a hit through the first 5.1 innings until he surrendered a two run home run (14) to Michael Burgess cutting the deficit to 6-2.
McDade mashed a two run home run (10) in the ensuing half inning as the Barnstormers lead ballooned to 8-2.
The Patriots received a RBI single from Greg Hopkins in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the score 8-3.
Shortstop Lance Zawadzki drew a bases loaded walk as Lancaster padded its lead to 9-3 in the top of the ninth inning.
Beck earned the win (4-3) tossing 5.1 innings while allowing two runs on two hits. Roy Merritt suffered the loss (0-1) in his 2015 Patriots debut allowing six runs on seven hits in three innings of work.
