Zarrillo Leads Patriots Offense To 10-5 Victory

96zarrilloandjodieBridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (33-26, 71-58) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (32-27, 67-62) 10-5 on Tuesday evening at TD Bank Ballpark.

The Skeeters jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a three-run home run by Travis Scott (16).

Vinny Zarrillo tied up the game in the third inning on a three-run home run, his second of the season and of his professional career.

“I’ve been feeling pretty good lately. I was just trying to hit a line drive somewhere to get the runs in to get us going,” said Zarrillo, who finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI. “I kind of reacted in to a slider and got it up there in the wind and it went over.”

Somerset opened up the game in the fourth inning on four straight RBI singles. Zarrillo once again got the big hit to break the tie. Aharon Eggleston, Eric Farris and Bryan LaHair then followed with base hits for a 7-4 advantage.

The Patriots extended the lead with two more runs in the fifth inning on a base hit by Scott Kelly and a fielder’s choice by Farris.

Sugar Land cut the lead to 9-5 on a solo home run by Patrick Palmeiro (9) and an RBI single by Rene Tosoni in the sixth inning.

Somerset’s final run came on a sacrifice fly by Farris in the seventh that made the score 10-5. Farris finished the game with three RBI.

Will Oliver (5-2) picked up the win, allowing five earned runs on nine hits in six innings pitched. Sean Gleason (0-2) allowed six earned runs on nine hits in two innings pitch to suffer the loss.
