Franklin Reporter & Advocate co-publisher PJ Parker interviews Kim Vannote, co-founder of the John Basilone Memorial Foundation, and Collette Reap, general manager of the Stage House Tavern, left to right, during the restaurant’s second annual fundraiser for the foundation.

The Stage House restaurant on Amwell Road was once again the location for a fundraiser barbecue for the Basilone Memorial Foundation on Labor Day.

The foundation was established about six years ago by Kim Vannote and Don Tozzi to honor the memory of U.S. Marine Sgt. John Basilone, a Raritan Borough native who received the Medal of Honor and Navy Cross for his heroism during the battle of Guadalcanal and battle of Iwo Jima during World War II.

Vannote is Basilone’s niece.

The major beneficiaries of the Basilone Foundation are the Fisher House Foundation and the Steeple Chase Cancer Center in Somerville.
