Veronica Ave., Clyde Rd. Railroad Crossings To Be Repaired

Veronica Ave RR Crossing2

Railroad crossings at Veronica Avenue, pictured, and Clyde Road will be paved over on July 14 and 15, weather permitting.

The bumpy ride over railroad crossings at Veronica Avenue and Clyde Road will come to an end soon.

Weather permitting, Conrail – which owns the tracks – will repave the pothole-scarred crossings on July 14 and July 15.

The work will entail paving over the rails “making for a uniform paved surface between the approaches and the location of the tracks,” Conrail spokesman John Enright said in an email. “The rail will no longer be visible.”

The work will entail closing the two roads during the repaving. According to a Facebook post from the township police, Veronica Ave. will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 14, and Clyde Road will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 15.

“These roads will be completely closed and impassable at the railroad crossings near Churchill Ave.,” according to the post. “Detours will be posted. Expect delays in the area and plan alternate routes if possible.”

Enright said that “weather permitting , both pavings should be completed by close of business on the 15th.”

The crossings have been a continued source of frustration for township residents and elected officials. In April, the township erected signs at both crossings, directing drivers to send their complaints to Conrail.
