Thomas Edison Charter School Bring Christmas Cheer to Care Center Residents
The Thomas Edison Energy Smart Charter School “Green Team” brought some smiles this Christmas season to residents of Franklin Care Center, Route 27, Franklin Park.
Students and parents from the Cortelyous Road school created gifts out of recycled materials and sold them during the school’s Winter Concert nights.
A total of $205 was raised, said school principal Oguz Yildiz.
The money was used to buy a Wii game system and two games – Wipeout and Dance Dance! – which were presented Dec. 20 to the Care Center’s residents, he said.
The students also sang carols and gave the residents balloons, flowers and doughnuts, he said.
“We hope as a community this can bring joy and life to the senior citizens living there,” Yildiz said in an email to the school’s community.
In an email thanking Yildiz for the donation, the center’s recreation director, Robert Lowden, said residents will “totally enjoy the gift and will receive many hours of pleasure.”
“Seeing everyone at our facility produced many smiles on the faces of our residents, as the caroling and general visitation were beyond words,” Lowden wrote.
