Somerset Shuts Out Rockers In Series Opener

High Point, North Carolina – The Somerset Patriots (41-27) earned a 3-0 shutout win over the High Point Rockers (40-29) in their first ever game at BB&T Point Friday night.

The game was scoreless over the first four innings before Somerset broke through in the fifth. Michael Crouse lined a one-out double to deep left field before Yovan Gonzalez brought him home with an RBI single.

The Patriots added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning on back-to-back two-out, RBI singles from Michael Ohlman and Alfredo Rodriguez.

High Point loaded the bases with no outs in the the next half inning against Somerset starter Brett Oberholtzer (W, 6-1), but relief pitcher Jonathan Cheshire entered and stranded all three inherited runners to keep the Rockers off the board.

Oberholtzer finished after five-plus scoreless innings, scattering five hits with one strikeout to earn the win.

Luis Cruz and Mike Antonini (25) finished off the final two innings with scoreless frames to preserve the 3-0 win.

Edwin Carl (L, 2-2) allowed three runs over five and two-thirds innings to take the loss.

The Patriots and Rockers continue their three-game series Saturday evening. First pitch at BB&T Point is set for 6:30 p.m.
