Somerset Patriots Sign 11-Year MLB Veteran Pitcher Jerome Williams

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of 11-year Major League veteran pitcher Jerome Williams.

 

Williams’ Major League career spans 236 games for the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros, Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals.

 

He has 52 wins for his Major League career that includes a 4.59 ERA and 655 strikeouts over 1,029.2 innings pitched.

 

Williams has service time in the Big Leagues in each of the last six seasons, including 11 games with the Cardinals in 2016. He appeared in 33 games for the Phillies in 2015 and pitched 121 innings for the club.

 

His best season in the majors was 2014 for Philadelphia, when he was 4-2 with 2.83 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 57.1 innings pitched over nine starts.

 

This will be the right-hander’s first season with the Somerset Patriots and second stint in the Atlantic League, having spent time with the Lancaster Barnstormers in 2011. That year, Williams was 6-0 with a 2.91 ERA and 40 strikeouts over 52.2 innings pitched in eight games (seven started).

 

He was 5-3 with a 4.89 ERA and 34 strikeouts in nine games started for Memphis (AAA) last season. In addition to his MLB service, Williams also has 11 seasons at the Triple-A level.

 

Williams is expected to be active and start in Friday night’s game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
