Skeeters Win Second Straight Lopsided Game Over Patriots

Bridgewater, NJ- The Sugar Land Skeeters (3-2, 33-42) defeated the Somerset Patriots (1-4, 43-32) 10-4 at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday evening.

The Skeeters took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI double by Hector Olivera.

Josh Prince’s two-run home run (5) in the fourth inning extended Sugar Land’s lead to 3-0.

The Skeeters made it a 7-0 game with a four-run fifth inning. Cole Gillespie got the scoring started with a two-run single. Joe Benson plated a run with a base hit and Kevin Ahrens’ sacrifice fly tacked on to the lead.

Sugar Land continued to roll with two more runs in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run single by Benson that made the score 9-0.

Albert Cordero powered the Skeeters to a 10-0 lead on a solo home run (3) in the top of the eighth inning.

Somerset got on the board in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI double by Christian Marrero, who later scored on a wild pitch to make it a 10-2 ballgame.

Marrero struck again for Somerset with a ninth inning RBI double and Aharon Eggleston’s RBI single made it the 10-4 final.

Michael Nix (7-5) picked up the win, allowing two hits in six scoreless innings of work. David Kubiak (3-7) suffered the loss, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits in five innings pitched.

“I don’t think it’s a lack of effort. I think we’re probably a little beat after putting so much into clinching the first half,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “I’m not making any excuses. We are going to get everybody’s best efforts and we need to come ready to play every day, and if we don’t, results like tonight are going to happen.”

The 2017 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Sunday, July 9th with a 5:05 pm game against the Sugar Land Skeeters. The game includes Autograph Books (1st 1,500 Kids) and Give Kids The World Night presented by Candlewood Suites. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
