Police Log: Sept. 8, 2013: Attempted Burglary, Shoplifting, Fire
A Clover Place resident reported that someone tried to break into their home while they were away.
Police said the resident said the incident happened between 2 p.m. and 4:19 p.m.
The resident said she and her husband had just returned from a wake to find that someone had tried to break in through a rear door. Police said fresh pry marks and a cracked door jamb were evident.
The resident said whoever tried to break in was unsuccessful.
Damage was valued at $200.
Police said there was no other evidence, and no witnesses.

A vacant Waldorf Street home was extensively damaged by fire early in the morning, police said.
Police said the fire was called in at 1:44 a.m., and appeared to have originated at its electrical panel.
Police said the home was empty, boards covered the basement windows and there were “Auction.com” signs on the property.
No injuries were reported.

Poice said Michael Hoagland Jr., no address given, was charged with shoplifting after he was allegedly seen leaving K-Mart on Easton Avenue without paying for $36.98 worth of items.
Police said Hoagland was detained by store security.
Hoagland was allegedly seen by store security trying to leave the store with clothing, police said.
Police said Municipal Court Judge E. Ronald Wright set Hoagland’s bail at $2,500, with an option to pay 10 percent. Hoagland was later released on bail.
