Patriots Top Barnstormers 8-6

62415newsLancaster, PA – The Somerset Patriots (43-16) defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers (25-34) 8-6 Wednesday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The Patriots extended their winning streak to a season-high eight games. With the victory the Patriots clinched the series and are now 11-0-2 in their last 13 series.

 

In the top of the second inning Somerset scored four times to take a 4-0 lead. The initial run came across via a throwing error by pitcher Dan Osterbrock. Shortstop Robert Andino clubbed a two RBI double while left fielder Aharon Eggleston roped a RBI single.

 

Lancaster cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fourth inning as first baseman Brian Cavazos-Galvez hit a RBI groundout while third baseman Luke Hughes sliced a RBI single to make the score 4-2.

 

Second baseman Greg Hopkins hit a RBI sacrifice fly to expand Somerset’s lead to 5-2 in the top of the fifth inning.

 

Somerset increased its lead to 8-2 in the top of the seventh inning as first baseman Thomas Neal cranked a two run home run (3) and Hopkins blasted a solo home run (5).

 

The Barnstormers scored on a Hopkins fielding error in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the score 8-3.

 

Cavazos-Galvez hammered a home run (6) in the bottom of the eighth inning making the score 8-4.

 

Shortstop Anderson Feliz slugged a two run home run (1) in the bottom of the ninth inning to make the score 8-6 which would be the final.

 

Sean Bierman earned the win (6-1) lasting eight innings while giving up four runs. Osterbrock sustained the loss (3-5) allowing five runs in five innings of work.
