Patriots Shut Out Bluefish 3-0

820egglestonwebBridgeport, CT – The Somerset Patriots (24-19, 62-51) blanked the Bridgeport Bluefish (22-20, 52-60) 3-0 Saturday evening at Harbor Yard. The Patriots have taken the first two in the pivotal three game series between these Liberty Division foes. Somerset has won nine of its last 11 games.

“Since we didn’t win the first half, every game is like a playoff game to us. But tonight you could really feel the intensity,” said Aharon Eggleston, who has reached base safely in eight of his ten plate appearances in the series. “We knew coming in where we stood against them and it’s nice to take the first two.”

Eggleston broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI single.

The Patriots tacked on two insurance runs in the road half of the ninth inning. Eggleston legged out another RBI infield single while another run crossed home on a Jose Veras wild pitch.

Rudy Owens (4-3) earned the win with seven scoreless innings. He surrendered five hits and struck out six, while only walking one. Chris Rearick (3-3) suffered the loss in his Bridgeport debut. He allowed one run in 4.2 innings of work. Jon Hunton notched his Atlantic League leading 31st save tossing the final frame.

The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on the road until the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday, August 23rd for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
